Design of Steel-Concrete Composite Structures
Prof. Anil Agarwal · IIT Hyderabad
About
Steel–concrete composite construction combines the best attributes of both structural steel and reinforced concrete, offering benefits such as rapid construction, efficient design, and reduced cross-sectional dimensions for structural members. This course will cover (i) the fundamental behavior of composite members in both the elastic and inelastic ranges, (ii) design considerations for strength and serviceability limit states, (iii) common loading conditions for which composite members must be designed, (iv) methods for calculating internal forces in composite elements, and (v) design guidelines as per various international standards, including Indian codes.
The course will focus on the design of (i) steel–concrete composite beams, (ii) composite slabs, (iii) steel-concrete composite columns, such as concrete-filled steel tube columns and concrete-encased steel columns, and (iv) connections for composite beams and columns.
In addition, the course will address design considerations for different loading conditions, including (i) gravity loads, (ii) static lateral loads, (iii) diaphragm action, and (iv) fire safety requirements.
Intended audience: - MTech students specializing in structural engineering. - It can be taken as an elective course by UG students of Civil Engineering. - Researchers working on these topics would find it useful. - College teachers and practicing engineers.
Prerequisites: Structural analysis, Structural mechanics, Mechanics of Solids, and Theory of elasticity.UG level design of steel structures is recommended but not mandatory.
