The idea for a lecture about the history of sport in London came about with the news that London was making a bid to hold the Olympic Games in 2012. It has always been believed that the only city in this country to have a chance of hosting the games is London. The lecture will look at London's fantastic sporting history and will show that if the choice were to be purely based on sporting tradition, then London would be the clear favourite. The city has hosted the games on two previous occasions - 1908 and 1948 and the lecture includes some of the highlights of those games.
