About
We present the results of the "Long‑Haul White‑Rabbit (WR) Incubator" project, encompassing both test‑bed experiments and trial deployment on the GÉANT and large scale real deployment on the CESNET operational networks.
First, we demonstrate a 400 km long‑haul WR transfer on a laboratory‑spooled test‑bed, evaluating several reach‑extension strategies. These findings informed the subsequent deployment on a real‑world route of almost 500 km, which incorporates five bidirectional amplifiers and operates concurrently with 2 × 400 Gbps coherent traffic on the GÉANT backbone. The CESNET roll‑out extends WR technology to 2 500 km of fiber infrastructure, including a longest segment that also uses five bidirectional amplifiers. The deployment features redundant timing‑frequency (TF) distribution, in‑situ calibration, and seamless coexistence with existing data traffic. Our results confirm that WR can reliably provide sub‑nanosecond synchronization over continental distances, even in the presence of high‑capacity data traffic and multiple amplification points, paving the way for future large‑scale timing‑frequency services across research and education networks.
