About
We present the latest advancements in White Rabbit protocol integration on the Idrogen platform, based on an Altera Arria10 FPGA, with a focus on long-distance synchronization applications. Two major use cases are highlighted: First, the synchronization of a pulsed laser over 100 km, achieving picosecond-level phase stability—a critical requirement for applications such as particle accelerators demanding distributed temporal coherence. Second, we demonstrate the synchronization of acquisition systems with a reference clock over 300 km, a first step to validate the protocol's robustness for large-scale infrastructures like telescope arrays. These results confirm that the Idrogen board, deployed on White Rabbit links, provides a deterministic and scalable solution for ultra-stable clock distribution, even in challenging environments with high demands on latency, jitter, and distance. Future work includes optimizations for even better stability, deterministic latency, and high speed data transfer for synchronized real-time processing.
