About
Modern time and frequency systems rely extensively on digital electronics for signal distribution and synchronization. Understanding the noise contribution of digital components is therefore important to assess system performance. This contribution focuses on noise in logic devices, such as FPGA-based circuits, introducing a simple framework to describe phase and time fluctuations and their scaling properties. The role of other components, including analog-to-digital converters and direct digital synthesizers, is briefly discussed to place logic-based approaches in a broader context. The aim is to provide a compact set of concepts that can be used in the analysis and design of low-noise synchronization systems, including architectures such as White Rabbit.
