About
Sinara and DIOT provide a concrete opportunity to bring White Rabbit timing into a broader class of scientific control systems, including—but not limited to—quantum computing and quantum networking. The White Rabbit Timing proposal already identifies the need for a reusable layer above WR, with APIs, test programs, documentation, and demonstrators that make precise timing easier to adopt. This talk will use Sinara/DIOT as a practical use case to discuss the value expected from such a reusable layer: clear abstractions, predictable timing behavior, calibration infrastructure, low barrier to first use, portability across hardware and software environments, long-term maintainability, and confidence through testing and documentation. The goal is not to promote a particular implementation path, but to gather feedback from potential users on what would make WR-based timing genuinely usable, reusable, and sustainable across different scientific communities.
