About
Starting and experimenting with White Rabbit was possible using a starter kit based on the SPEC board. However, the SPEC design is old (more than 10 years)and based on an old FPGA (Spartan 6, which is supported only by ISE toolchain).
The need for a new hardware kit is still present. But to reduce costs and to avoid managing low-volume production, we'd better to use an already available commercial board.
The Kria KR260 Robotics Starter Kit is a nice candidate for a WR demo board: it has an SFP, a powerful FPGA (a ZynqUS+ mpsoc), and is affordable: less than 400$/CHF/EUR.
However, it has no controlled oscillator. Just 2+1 crystal oscillators.
This talk will explain how to port White Rabbit to this board, starting from previous work by MLE (port of WR to the ZynqUS+ evaluation kit ZCU102), but also going beyond: taking advantages of the GTHe4 transceivers, of the mpsoc and explaining the recent changes in the PTP core.
