The adventure of CERN's first major discovery
Talk by Bernard Degrange (CNRS-IN2P3) Christophe Grojean (DESY), and Delphine Blanchard (CNRS); moderation by Fabrice Nicot.
50 years ago, an international team led by Professor. André Lagarrigue presented a result that would revolutionise elementary particle physics forever: the observation of mysterious "neutral currents", a new phenomenon linked to the existence of a new particle, a kind of "super photon" carrying the weak force. The story of this discovery, which aroused much incredulity at the time, will be told by three speakers, one of the protagonists, a historian and a theorist in an exceptional evening accessible to all.
This event is co-organized by CERN, CNRS-IN2P3, CEA and SFP.
