About
Large scientific facilities and their associated projects operate as intricate networks of systems, equipment, and services, requiring robust coordination to ensure successful outcomes. This presentation will explore the importance of a solid and common methodology for project and process management, validated since the construction of the LHC and further developed during CERN's long shutdowns. We will provide an overview of how the CERN coordination team delivers results and supports projects at different stages, including HL-LHC, FCC, and ETO, sharing current status, lessons learned, and areas for improvement. The talk will also address how technical coordination evolves throughout the project lifecycle, emphasizing flexibility, adaptability, and proactive approaches such as definition of WBS, PBS, definition of baseline, deviation detection, and resource planning. In an environment where expertise and availability are critical bottlenecks, human resources, expertise, accountability, and communication, remain the key success factors for achieving efficiency and resilience in large-scale scientific projects.
