About

JWST was launched in December 2021 and is now ready for science. It is the largest infrared space observatory ever built and covers the spectral wavelength range from 1 micron to 28 microns. The scientific goals of the mission include the study of galaxy formation and evolution, the investigation of the process of star and planet formation, and the characterization of exoplanets. The talk will summarize the technical challenges of JWST and will present some of the first scientific results. It will also discuss the detector technology for the infrared instruments. .
