About
Even today, the main source of errors in measurements of the energy of hadronic showers is due to fluctuations in the electromagnetic shower fraction. The most promising way to cancel these effects is the dual-readout technique in which two independent processes (e.g. scintillation and Cherenkov light emission) are used to sample the shower development process. On an event-by-event basis, the electromagnetic fraction can be removed in the estimation of the energy absorbed in the detector. In addition to superior energy resolution, if coupled with high granularity, dual readout calorimeters can provide top-of-the-art performance in final-state identification and tagging, as well as very accurate validation of Monte Carlo shower models.
In this seminar, we will show the predictions of Monte Carlo simulations, the results of beam tests with the first prototypes, and ongoing work to assess performance in possible future experiments at electroweak factories.
Coffee will be served at 10:30.
