Opening the book…
Inclusive Economic Reflection
Elasticity provides a powerful tool for understanding how consumers and producers respond to economic change. However, these responses can vary across individuals and communities because of differences in income, geography, cultural preferences, access to resources, transportation, and available market alternatives.
As you apply elasticity in later chapters, consider not only the size of a market response, but also how and why that response may differ across consumers, producers, farmworkers, and agricultural communities.
Chapter Reflection: How can considering different economic circumstances and community perspectives lead to a more complete interpretation of elasticity?
