Her career has taken her across classrooms, international programs, research initiatives, professional exchanges, and collaborative projects involving participants and institutions from around the world. Her work has included international education, faculty development, leadership programming, workforce and professional skills development, responsible artificial intelligence, educational policy, and the design of learning experiences intended to help people understand global challenges from multiple perspectives. She has participated in and contributed to international programs including the East-West Center's Asia Pacific Leadership Program, the Fulbright International Education Administrators Program in Japan, the Council of American Overseas Research Centers Faculty Development Seminar in Senegal, and the Fulbright Specialist Program in Peru amongst others. Her work has also included collaborations and projects connected to international organizations, universities, nonprofits, and education initiatives in multiple regions of the world.
She is the founder of Experience International LLC, through which she develops international education, training, research, facilitation, and consulting projects. Across this work, one theme appears repeatedly: some of the most important learning happens when people are encouraged to move beyond familiar categories and examine how their experiences connect to larger global systems.
That philosophy also shapes this book. Rather than approaching global studies as a collection of countries, definitions, and institutions to memorize, Gandhi approaches it as an invitation to investigate relationships: between local lives and global systems, history and the present, culture and power, individual choices and structural forces. She believes that rigorous scholarship and engaging writing are not opposites, and that students should not have to choose between a textbook that teaches them something and a book they actually enjoy reading. This book is an attempt to do both.
