    About Entrada Libre 2nd edition

A new edition, seven years in the making

Originally developed under the ASCCC OERI's first RFP in 2019 and published within an accelerated six-month window in 2020, Entrada Libre has become a foundational OER grammar manual for second-year Spanish courses, widely adopted, adapted, and used across the discipline.

As the resource reaches its seven-year milestone, the launch of the Tarea Libre 2 (2024) homework collection serves as a catalyst for this timely revision. Entrada Libre 2.0 is now fully aligned with Tarea Libre 2, providing students and instructors with a cohesive, integrated learning experience.

    What's new in this edition

This second edition reflects two major commitments: a deeper alignment with culturally responsive pedagogy, and a substantial expansion of grammatical coverage.

A culturally responsive revision. Entrada Libre 2.0 incorporates the ASCCC OERI Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Anti-Racism (IDEA) Framework, which was established after the initial publication of the manual. Working through this lens, and integrating Universal Design for Learning (UDL 3.0) principles, every chapter has been reviewed and revised to ensure that the content reflects the diverse identities, communities, and learning needs of Spanish students including the many heritage learners and first-generation college students who make up our classrooms.

Expanded grammatical coverage. Beyond updates to existing material, this edition adds 14 new grammar sections aligned with Tarea Libre 2, plus a new capstone chapter, "De todo un poco." All existing chapters have been refreshed with clearer explanations, updated cultual readings and images, and additional H5P interactive activities.

Our methodology for the IDEA revision

To make the IDEA revision systematic and transparent, this edition employs the ASCCC OERI IDEA Framework Gen-AI Crosswalk as a structured methodology for assessing each chapter against the IDEA Framework (March 2025). The Crosswalk evaluates eight core elements:

    1. Illustrations and Photos
    2. Example Names
    3. Gender-Inclusive Language and Use of Pronouns
    4. Diverse Authors, Researchers, and Studies
    5. Applications, Examples, and Problem Scenarios
    6. Appropriate Terminology
    7. Keyword, Glossary, and Metadata Representation
    8. Incorporating Diverse Perspectives on Issues Relevant to Underrepresented Groups

Consistent with the Crosswalk's guidance, gen-AI outputs were treated as drafts requiring disciplinary review. All revisions were vetted by the authors, with feedback solicited from colleagues whose expertise and identities informed the proposed changes.

    H5P Interactive Activities

The H5P interactive activities in Entrada Libre 2.0 were developed following the same approach established in the first edition of Entrada Libre. Activity types were selected based on the Accessibility Reports for H5P Activity Types, using only those rated Usable with Best Practices or Usable with Workarounds. Activity types classified as Requires Alternative Activity were not used. Content was created in accordance with the guidelines and workarounds outlined in the accessibility reports, as well as the recommendations provided by the accessibility expert during the review of the first edition.

    Continued commitment to open access

Entrada Libre 2.0 is developed and hosted on LibreTexts and LibreStudio, and remains freely accessible, adaptable, and openly licensed for all faculty and students.
