Opening the book…
The Overall Assignment:
Our class has covered quite a range of literary works beginning in the Middle Ages and extending into the 18th century. As a way of reviewing for the final exam, your group will be assigned a given time period to present to the rest of the class as a representation of the major aspects of the literary works within that time period.
The Time Periods:
These time periods as designated in the textbook and on the course calendar.
- Middle Ages
- Middle English
- The Tudor Age
- The Age of Revolution
- Neoclassism and the 18th Century
Please note: I know that work in a group presents many challenges; however, it also offers many opportunities to increase your creativity, knowledge, and critical thinking skills, so please try to navigate the challenges of working with your team members. If you find that some of your team members are not participating, do your best to reach out to them and see if they may need some encouragement to join in. You can also reach out to me if they don’t seem to be responding to your messages.
Creating Your Padlet
- Choose one group member to go to Padlet.com and create a free account. I would recommend that you designate the person who creates the Padlet account to be the designer of the Padlet so that not all of you are moving things around on the Padlet. You can all have input on how it’s designed, but it can get confusing if everyone is moving items around.
- Once you have an account. That group member should create a new Padlet by clicking on the pink button that says “Make a Padlet.” Please make sure that the Padlet is accessible to all of the group members and does not need a password.
- You can choose from a variety of style/color themes. Here is a link to a tutorial about how to use Padlet: YouTube Padlet Tutorial. The video tutorial is also embedded below.
Video produced by UENVideo, all rights reserved. It is not openly licensed but freely available to all.
- The key here is to think about the best way to connect the various elements and organize them in a way that is visually appealing as well as logical for the viewers.
Requirements for Your Padlet:
These are the minimum requirements for your Padlet. You are welcome to do more than this, but you should have at least these items.
- A clear title that identifies your time period.
- Identify major themes, social and/or political movements within the overall time period.
- All texts that we have read within your assigned time period should appear in the Padlet
- For each text, provide some background on the author
- For each text, provide the date it was written and/or of publication
- For each text, provide a brief overview of the plot, characters, and themes
- For each text, provide one key quotation with a citation and a brief explanation of its significance
- One selfie from each group member along with a statement about which text was your favorite from this time period and why.
- Include pictures in order to break up the text
*** You are welcome to include additional elements besides those listed above. However, these are the required elements.
