    11.1: Peer Review 1

    Peer Review Checklist #1

Reviewer Name: _______________________ Essay Writer’s Name:

    Part 1: The Basics

Check the boxes that apply to the current draft.

    [ ] Formatted in MLA (double-spaced, Times New Roman/similar 12pt, 1-inch margins).

[ ] Includes a proper MLA heading (their name/professor/class/date on top left of pg 1 only) AND headers (their last name and page number on top right of every page)

[ ] Draft meets the minimum word requirement.

[ ] Includes a Works Cited page (or at least draft citations).

    Part 2: Thesis & Argument

    1. Identify the writer's thesis statement. Write it below (or summarize it if it is too long):

Evaluate the thesis based on the essay requirements:
[ ] Direct: It directly states their position.
[ ] Arguable: It takes a stance that requires defending (it is not just stating a fact).
[ ] Needs Work: The thesis is missing, unclear, or too broad.
Explain why "Needs Work" is checked:

    Part 3: Evidence & Counterargument

    1. Source Count: There are ______ sources integrated and cited in this draft.
    2. Quote Integration: How well does the writer introduce and explain their evidence?
[ ] Strong: Quotes are introduced smoothly and followed by the writer's own analysis (sandwich)
[ ] Developing: Some quotes are "dropped" without proper introduction or explanation.

    3. Counterargument: Does the writer address a perspective opposing their thesis?
[ ] Yes, clearly. The counterargument is stated and the writer successfully refutes it.
[ ] Attempted. A counterargument is mentioned, but the writer needs to refute it/explain why their own thesis is still correct.
[ ] Missing. The writer still needs to add a counterargument source/section.

    Part 4: Constructive Feedback

Take 5-10 minutes to write thoughtful final feedback for your peer.

    1. Good Stuff: What is the strongest part of this draft?

    2. The Next Step: What are the 2 most important things the writer should focus on fixing before submitting the final draft? (e.g., Clarifying the thesis, explaining quotes more, addressing the counterargument, fixing formatting).
