    3.1: Introduction

Psychoacoustics is the study of how humans perceive and interpret sound—bridging the gap between physical acoustics and the psychological processes of hearing. It explores how the brain analyzes vibrations in the air and transforms them into sensations of pitch, loudness, timbre, spatial location, and tonal balance. By understanding the frequency spectrum, octave structures, instrument ranges, equal loudness principle, and the differences between binaural and stereo hearing, we gain insight into why sounds are experienced the way they are, and how this knowledge can be applied to audio engineering, music production, and acoustic design.
