    7.2: The Audio Signal Chain

    The Audio Signal Chain

The audio signal chain begins with the source—whether that’s a microphone, instrument, or playback device—and moves through processing stages such as mixing consoles, amplifiers, and effects units. At the end of the chain, the speaker (also referred to as a monitor) serves as the final link in this signal path.

The quality of the audio we perceive is influenced not only by the speaker itself but also by the listening environment. Both should be optimized to achieve the most accurate and faithful representation of the original sound. Even the highest-quality speaker can be compromised by poor room acoustics, while a well-treated space with carefully placed monitors allows for precise and reliable listening.
