    3.4: Octave Groupings

    Octave Groupings

In music and acoustics, an octave represents a doubling of frequency. For example:

    • 100 Hz → one octave higher = 200 Hz.
    • 200 Hz → one octave higher = 400 Hz.

The octave system allows classification of sound frequencies into manageable bands. Human perception of pitch is logarithmic, making octave divisions useful in both music and sound engineering.
