    Chapter 12: Illustration
    Learning Objectives

In this chapter, you will learn how to:

    • Brainstorm and plan an Illustration paper with purpose
    • Structure and write a meaningful Illustration paper

An illustration and exemplification essay is often referred to as an example essay and it hinges upon a strong thesis statement with body paragraphs that are used to then clarify, support, and prove the validity of the thesis statement. These body paragraphs are typically filled with illustrations and specific examples or instances that support the thesis through the use of evidence. When you exemplify, you are demonstrating through the use of examples. In many ways, every essay is an illustration and exemplification essay because each essay you write should have a strong thesis statement with clear supporting evidence.
