    7.4.0: Gramática

Let´s review the different conjugations for the verb Tener.

    Tener
    Yo tengo Nosotros tenemos
    Tú tienes Vosotros tenéis
    Él/ella/usted tiene Ellos/ellas/ustedes tienen
    ¡Ojo!

Not only does tener have stem changes inside the boot, but it also has an irregular YO form!

    Key Term: Tener que infinitive

¨Tener que¨ is used to talk about:

    • things you need / have to do
    • to give advice/suggestions/recommendations

The verb tener is conjugated in the forms we saw above, but now it is followed by que + a verb in the infinitive.

    Nota

Remember that infinitives end in -AR, -ER, or -IR in Spanish. They have not been conjugated.

Follow this model: Tener + que + a verb in the infinitive

    Modelo:

    • Tienes que hablar más español con tus amigos.
    • Tengo que estudiar en la biblioteca.
    • Ellos tienen que trabajar los lunes.
    • ¿Qué tienes que hacer hoy?
