    6.1: Chapter Scenario
    Scenario \(\PageIndex{1}\)

Kevin's employer has asked them to research different budgeting software and create a short list of the best options for their company. Kevin has been asked to look for a tool that is affordable, but also highly rated and comes with the features they need for their company. Kevin immediately turns to the internet to search for information about different budgeting software platforms in order to identify options that would serve the company; however, Kevin has concerns about some of his sources.

    1. The company website for each software provides the most information about it and they seem highly relevant. However, the company is certainly going to be biased about their own product. Their website exists to sell the product, doesn't it?
    2. The internet is filled with user reviews for these different software products; however, Kevin can't tell which reviews are from people who legitimately owned it. Some of them could be fake. They aren't sure which ones to rely on.
    3. There are websites that exist to compare these products and provide reviews on them, which really seems to address the first two problems! However, it occurs to Kevin that those websites sell ad space, including having ads for some of these same products. This suggest that they could also be biased!
