    8.3: The Easy Vowel O

    Objectifs

In this section, you will learn how to pronounce the letter o.

    Media Alternative

Listen to the audio clips that follow on this page to hear the French pronunciation of vocabulary and examples presented.

In the audio players, you can slow down the audio by clicking on the turtle and speed up by clicking on the rabbit. The turtle and rabbit are located at the bottom right corner of each audio player.

    Let's get started!

Congratulations! You already know how to pronounce o since it is the same in English and French. The French o almost always pronounced [o] like in go or no. While the o changes pronunciation a lot in English, the single o in French does not change much. Here are a few examples:

bol, rôle, pot, rigolo, homme, origine

Careful! O can change pronunciation when combined with certain other letters in French. Please refer to pages 9.3, 9.4, 9.5.
