Opening the book…
The Etruscans inhabited several city states but were not unified militarily. Talented in metallurgy and sculpture, they developed their own unique style of architecture and city planning. They used a grid pattern to layout their cities. There was also a harmonious relationship between husband and wife demonstrated in the surviving burial sculptures. Unfortunately, they were either vanquished or assimilated into the Roman civilization. This may have been the result of their lack of unification.
