    Recursive variable

A variable whose updated value is a function of it's previous value.

Recursive for loop A loop in which the calculations for each iteration depend on the results of the previous iteration. It has one or more recursive variables. The summation of a series is one example.
    Recursive script or function

A script or function that calls itself. This repeats itself many times, until either code logic ends the loop or until the maximum number of recursive calls in MATLAB is reached.

Recursive scripts and functions without logic to to end the loop are almost always mistakes.

There are a very few specialized functions that use recursive calls to themselves; these must have logic to end the recursion.
