    12.2: Procedure
    1. Identify one member of your group to serve as the subject for this experiment. Obtain a baseline measurement of heart rate as the subject is sitting quietly. Measure heart rate by placing your index and middle fingers on your wrist or the side of your neck and count the beats for 15 seconds, then multiply by four to get your beats per minute. Record this as the resting heart rate in table 12. 1.
    2. Obtain a baseline measurement of skin temperature. Measure skin temperature at the back of your subject’s hand using the infrared thermometer; alternatively, you can use a probe thermometer held between the thumb and forefinger. Record this as the initial temperature in table 12. 1.
    3. Apply a cold stimulus to your subject by having them place their hands in a container of cold water for a total of 1 minute.
    4. Immediately after removing your hand from the container, take a skin temperature, core temperature, and heart rate reading. Record this as the post-stimulus skin temperature in data table 12. 1. Also record the subjective sensations and physical observations you experienced from the exposure to this stimulus.
    5. Repeat the measurements of skin temperature, core temperature, and heart rate every 2 minutes, for a total of 8 minutes. Record this information in data table 12.1.
    6. Apply a heat stimulus to your subject by having them place their hands in a container of warm water (~40°C) for a total of 1 minute.
    7. Immediately after removing your hand from the container, take a skin temperature, core temperature, and heart rate reading. Record this as the post-stimulus skin temperature in data table 12. 2. Also record the subjective sensations and physical observations you experienced from the exposure to this stimulus.
    8. Repeat the measurements of skin temperature, core temperature and heart rate every 2 minutes, for a total of 8 minutes. Record this information in data table 12.2.
    9. Plot the data for time vs skin temperature and time vs core temperature in Figure 1. This means that you will have 2 separate lines on this same graph.
    10. Plot the data for time vs heart rate in Figure 2.
