Structures of the Respiratory System
Identify and Describe Functions using a Sagittal View Model/Image.
- Obtain a sagittal view model or image of the respiratory system numbered for identification.
- Carefully look at the sagittal view of the respiratory system. Notice the numbered structures indicated on the model/image.
- One by one, identify each anatomical structure corresponding to the indicated numbers.
- For each identified structure, write a brief description of its function.
- Use this prompt to guide your descriptions: What is the primary role of this structure in the respiratory system?
Figure \(\PageIndex{1}\) offers a sagittal view of the human respiratory system, with various components labeled by letters (a-f) for easy identification. This side-on perspective allows for a detailed understanding of the spatial arrangement and function of respiratory structures, aiding in recognizing how air flows through the system.
Structures for Identification
Match the following structures to the labeled letters in the Figure \(\PageIndex{1}\).
- Conchae in nasal cavity
- Nasopharynx, Oropharynx
- Thyroid cartilage
- Epiglottis of larynx
- Vocal folds of larynx
- Laryngopharynx
