Susan Edmonstone Ferrier's final novel comes to us in two volumes. Most of the book is placed in the Scottish Highland with rich geographical descriptions. It follows the romantic ties, traditional and flirtatious, along with jealousies, resolutions and the potential dissolution of those ties. In a few words, human nature of the finest in Scotland of the late 1800's. - Summary by Christine Rottger
