Le songe d'une nuit d'été
Translated by François Guizot
"Le songe d'une nuit d'été" by William Shakespeare is a comedy play written around 1595 or 1596. Set in Athens, the story weaves together multiple plots surrounding the wedding of Duke Theseus and Queen Hippolyta. Four young Athenian lovers find themselves entangled in romantic confusion, while amateur actors rehearse a play for the royal wedding. When both groups enter an enchanted forest, mischievous fairies—led by the feuding King Oberon and Queen Titania—intervene with magical spells that turn love into chaos under the moonlight.
