The image is a pencil sketch of a seated figure from the waist up. The person has one knee raised and bent with one hand on the bent knee and the other hand on a flat surface beside them. The head is turned slightly forward, facing the viewer with simple facial features, including eyebrows, eyes, a nose, and lips. The hair is short and textured. The figure is unclothed, showing muscular outlines of the torso and limbs. The background is plain with subtle indications of surroundings. The bottom right of the sketch is signed "F. Hodler."
