The image shows several large boats docked along a harbor. The horizon is high in the composition, emphasizing the water and boats closest to the viewer. Distant buildings, more boats, and sails in the wind are visible along the horizon. Deliberate lines and cross-hatching are used for shading and texture, especially on the boats and water. The color palette is monochromatic, with various shades of black and gray, typical of an etching on paper that emphasizes details through contrast and line work.
