About this work

European bee-eater (Merops apiaster) on an branch, with open beak. After the European bee-eater was considered extinct in Germany in the 1980s, it has been spreading increasingly since the 1990s. It can be viewed as a climate winner that settles wherever it can breed (steep clay walls) and find sufficient preys (especially large insects). The Kaiserstuhl is an ideal area to observe the European bee-eater.
