About this work

Caricature postcard by Trierer Karnevalsgesellschaft Heuschreck, (Heuschreck = grasshopper), one of the oldest carnival associations in Germany (founded 1848). The card shows the board of the association Der Kleine Rat (The Small Council), its members are depicted as bottles. The labels signify where the counselors come from (from left to right): Kupferberg Gold from Trier, (in 1905 possibly the most expensive Sekt bottle for the president Julius Woytt), Wawerner Herrenberger, Bernkasteler Doctor‚ Matheiser Sauerwasser (a mineral spring in Trier-Süd), Lieserer Niederberg, Obermoseler, Trittenheimer (a word play: Tritt (de) = kick (en) - the counselor is kicking his colleague in the rear), Viez (apple wine from Trier and surroundings), Erdener Treppchen.
