Alice C. Evans, National Photo Company portrait, circa 1915, by National Photo Company Collection, restored by Adam Cuerden, between 1913 and 1918 (the LoC says 1910 to 1920, but she only worked for the Dairy Division between those years, so we can cut down the range a bit more based on the title.)

About this work

"Alice C. Evans, Facter[.] in Dairy Division, Dept. of Agrl. who studes microscopic organisms and their relation to health, flavor and keeping qualities of dairy products" (This title is a bit dated, perhaps, given one of her major achievements was that she proved brucellosis was not a bacterium that caused disease in cattle but had no effect on humans, but was a really bad thing to be drinking in your milk.)
