About this work

Rheinturm, Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany The Rhine Tower is one of the city’s most famous landmarks. Construction began in 1979, and the 240-meter-high television tower was opened in 1982. It is primarily used to broadcast radio and television programs and replaced older, smaller transmission masts. The tower was designed by architect Harald Deilmann. Its slender concrete structure with its striking round tower basket dominates the cityscape along the Rhine and in the Media Harbour. A special feature is the “light time level” display on the shaft of the tower: since 1982, it has been showing the time with the help of light points. At a height of approximately 168 meters, there is a viewing platform and a revolving restaurant with a panoramic view of the city and the Rhine. Today, the Rhine Tower is a technical structure, a vantage point, and a symbol of modern Düsseldorf all at once.
