About this work

Lüdinghausen Castle, Lüdinghausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany Lüdinghausen Castle is located in the center of Lüdinghausen and is a typical Münsterland moated castle. Its origins date back to the 13th century. It was probably built by the Lords of Lüdinghausen as a fortified noble residence. The castle was surrounded by wide moats and consisted of an outer bailey and a main castle. Over the centuries, it changed hands several times and was expanded and redesigned. After military use, it lost its importance in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, the complex has been restored and is used for cultural purposes. It houses event rooms and serves as a venue for exhibitions, concerts, and celebrations. Together with the nearby Vischering Castle, it shapes the townscape and underlines Lüdinghausen’s reputation as the “town of three castles”.
