About this work

Telescope on the observation deck of the Eiffel Tower, Paris, France The Eiffel Tower is the most famous landmark in Paris. It was built for the 1889 World’s Fair to mark the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. The 324-meter-high tower was designed by engineer Gustave Eiffel and his team. Construction began in 1887 and took just over two years. At the time of its completion, the Eiffel Tower was the tallest structure in the world. Initially, the iron structure was criticized by many artists and intellectuals, but it soon became a symbol of modern engineering. Originally, the tower was supposed to be dismantled after 20 years. However, its importance for radio and telecommunications technology ensured its preservation. The Eiffel Tower is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world and stands as a symbol of Paris, France, and the technological age of the 19th century.
