About this work

Victoria Hall in Petrolia, Ontario, Canada. An excellent example of the architecture of George F. Durand, an architect from London, Ontario, Canada, who was extremely prolific in his short life. Built of locally sourced brick, it features many of the eclectic elements that marked Durand's architecture, including windows of varying sizes, an emphasis on verticality, and a terra cotta relief. It was gutted by fire in 1989, but rebuilt. It is a National Historic Site of Canada.
