About this work

Cross-sections of freshly felled Scots Pine logs (Pinus sylvestris) from a thinning on a forest log pile near Teutendorf (Sanitz). The image clearly shows the wide sapwood with fresh resin droplets near the edges; the sunlight and freshness of the cut influence the color appearance. It also shows the range of log diameters and the characteristic bark texture of young pines.
