About this work
Meili Snow Mountains, standard name Taizi (Prince) Snow Mountains, form a section of the Nu Mountains within the Hengduan Mountain Range and constitute an important component of the UNESCO World Heritage site Three Parallel Rivers of Yunnan Protected Areas. They are located along the border between Deqin County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, and Zayu County, Nyingchi City, Tibet Autonomous Region, China. The Meili Snow Mountains comprise six peaks exceeding 6,000 meters in elevation. Their main peak, Kawagarbo, rises to 6,740 meters and is the highest mountain in Yunnan Province. None of the major peaks of the Meili Snow Mountains has ever been successfully summited. In 1991, a joint Chinese–Japanese mountaineering expedition suffered a fatal accident on Kawagarbo, resulting in the deaths of all 17 team members. This picture shows the eastern face of the Meili Snow Mountains, photographed at sunrise on 10 May 2025 from the Feilai Temple Viewing Platform in Deqin County.
