About this work
The Hoysaleswara Temple at Halebidu (12th century) is anarchitectural marvel of Hoysala architecture, built in chloritic schist with a stellate (star-shaped) plan that maximizes sculptural surfaces. It features a sanctum, vestibule, and mandapa with lathe-turned pillars, intricately carved ceilings, and exterior walls covered in deep-relief panels depicting deities and epics.
