About this work

Photographic art based on the lights of a Ferris wheel on the Herbstsend in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany This image was created using intentional camera movement (ICM) in various directions, as well as by combining multiple exposures. The Send is Münster’s big folk festival and takes place three times a year on Schlossplatz square. Its origins date back to the 9th century. The name is derived from the Middle Low German word “Synode”, meaning church assembly. In the Middle Ages, this synod was combined with a market, which over time developed into an annual fair. Today, the Send is one of the largest folk festivals in the Münsterland region. Fairground rides, stalls, music, and fireworks characterize the event and attract hundreds of thousands of visitors. A historical symbol is the Send sword at the historic town hall. This sword was formerly erected during the Send as a sign of market peace. It stood for protection, legal certainty, and special order during the market. Even today, the Send sword commemorates the medieval roots of the festival and combines tradition with lively folk culture.
