About this work
Gold-blotch grouper (Epinephelus costae), Cabo de Palos, Spain. This species is a more southern species than the more common and well-known dusky grouper. In fact, in the Atlantic it is no longer found north of Portugal, while in the south it reaches as far as Angola. In the Mediterranean Sea it was long much more common along the coasts of the southern regions, but, since the mid-2000s, its diffusion has increased significantly even in the more northern areas. It lives in a depth between 10–80 metres (33–262 ft) and usually reaches a length of 80 centimetres (31 in) and a weight of 8 kilograms (18 lb).
