About this work
Santa Marta Lighthouse, Cascais, Portugal. The lighthouse, which is 20 metres (66 ft) tall, is situated on the estuary of the River Tagus, providing a light for the Cascais Bay and for the town's new marina. It was built in 1867 after the Fort of Santa Marta, built in the 1640s, was considered in 1864 to be no longer militarily necessary.
