The air in Delhi has turned toxic once again; the threat to public health is intensifying, and the rising pollution levels have now become a source of political friction. Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has crossed the 400 mark, placing the air in the 'severe' category. On November 1, the AQI stood at 261, but it climbed to 348 within just two days. Amidst this worsening pollution crisis, smoke from stubble burning is increasingly contributing to the poor air quality in Delhi. It is estimated that by November 5, stubble burning could account for more than 22 percent of the PM2.5 levels in the city.
