# Friends Who Are Family, Family Who Are Friends: Novels by Tayari Jones and Ann Patchett

Ann Patchett (“Whistler”), who will be receiving the 2026 Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction at this event, and award-winning author Tayari Jones (“Kin”) discuss novels about family and the passage of time. In conversation with NPR’s Mary Louise Kelly, they examine friends who feel like family, family that becomes friends, and the sometimes thorny, strange way those relationships emerge.
