# Pre-concert conversation: Tabea Zimmermann/Javier Perianes

Violist Tabea Zimmermann and pianist Javier Perianes were joined by the Library’s Carol Lynn Ward Bamford and Catherine Slowik for a conversation about their concert at the Library. Their discussion touched on the artists’ musical origins and collaboration; the works on the program (Robert Schumann’s Fantasiestücke in an arrangement for viola and piano by Zimmermann; Johannes Brahms’ Sonata for Viola and Piano, op. 120 no. 2; Benjamin Britten’s Lachrymae, op. 48; and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Sonata for Viola and Piano, op. 147); Zimmermann’s collaborations with the Hindemith Foundation and the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation; transcription in the viola repertoire; intonation in chamber music for strings and piano; leadership opportunities for violists in Europe; and how Zimmermann and Perianes choose their instruments.
