# Jessica Rhaye with Bill Preeper and Sandy Mackay: The Old Blackbird

Canadian singer/songwriter Jessica Rhaye with Bill Preeper and Sandy Mackay performing the song “The Old Blackbird” from a field recording of Johannah O’Brien of Cape Broyle, Newfoundland, recorded by MacEdward Leach in Cape Broyle, Newfoundland in 1951. From the MacEdward Leach collection of Newfoundland recordings, 1951 (AFC 1968/013). The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress challenged musical artists to interpret material from its unparalleled archive of ethnographic recordings of traditional folk music. Artists were asked to put their own spin on these archival treasures, and to perform them at a special showcase during the Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City, Missouri in 2024. The showcase was recorded for this webcast.
