# SaulPaul: Amazing Grace

Texas-born rapper and singer-songwriter SaulPaul performing the song “Amazing Grace” from a recording of Lead Belly made at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. in 1940. From the Alan Lomax recordings of Huddie “Lead Belly” Ledbetter, 1940 collection, AFC 1941/024: AFS 04470 B05. The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress challenged musical artists to interpret material from its unparalleled archive of ethnographic recordings of traditional folk music. Artists were asked to put their own spin on these archival treasures, and to perform them at a special showcase during the Folk Alliance International conference in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2020. The showcase was recorded for this webcast.
