# Hat Fitz and Cara: Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning

Belfast-born singer and drummer Cara Robinson with Australian blues singer and guitarist Hat Fitz performing “Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning” from a field recording of Mississippi Fred McDowell made in his home in Como, Mississippi in 1959. Alan Lomax collection (AFC 2004/004:T898r9). The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress challenged musical artists to interpret material from its unparalleled archive of ethnographic recordings of traditional folk music. Artists were asked to put their own spin on these archival treasures, and to perform them at a special showcase during the Folk Alliance International conference in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2020. The showcase was recorded for this webcast.
